Haworthia limifolia variegata is a visually striking succulent prized for its unique leaf texture and beautiful variegated patterns. It is a cultivated variety of Haworthia limifolia, commonly known as the "Fairy Washboard" or "File Leaf Haworthia," native to Southern Africa (specifically Mozambique, Eswatini, and South Africa).
* Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. It can tolerate some gentle morning sun, but harsh, direct afternoon sun should be avoided as it can scorch the leaves, especially the variegated portions which are more susceptible to sunburn due to the lack of chlorophyll. Insufficient light may cause the plant to lose its compact shape and vibrant coloration.
* Soil: A well-draining succulent or cactus potting mix is crucial to prevent root rot. Amending the soil with perlite, pumice, or coarse sand can improve drainage.
* Watering: Water thoroughly but infrequently. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. During the active growing season (spring and summer), watering frequency will be higher than in the dormant winter period. Reduce watering significantly in winter. Avoid letting water sit in the rosette, as this can lead to rot.
* Temperature: Average room temperatures ranging from 65°F to 80°F (18°C to 27°C) are suitable. It can tolerate cooler temperatures in winter if kept dry but should be protected from frost, which can damage or kill the plant.
* Watering: Water thoroughly but infrequently. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering is a common issue and can lead to root rot. Reduce watering significantly during the winter months or any dormant period (some Haworthias can slow down in peak summer heat).
